New depths with Covenant Ballet

Covenant Ballet Theatre of Brooklyn is taking its audience to the ocean’s depths with its newest ballet, "Ondine-the Sea Sprite."

Staged and choreographed by Artistic Director Marla Hirokawa, the ballet features CBTB principal dancer Allison Jay Baber as the beautiful, tragic sea nymph named Ondine.

The compelling and tender score for the ballet is woven from music by Jean Sibelius, Arthur Sullivan, Ned Rorem and Gerald Finzi. Young students from the company’s affiliated school, CBTB Dance Academy, will be given the invaluable opportunity to work alongside professional dancers in this company premier.

In addition to “Ondine-the Sea Sprite,” CBTB will open the program with one of the company’s popular, lighthearted repertoires, “A New York Rhapsody,” set to George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”

As a service to the community and as part of CBTB’s mission, a Ticket Sponsor program will be offered. This program is designed to sponsor seats for underprivileged children and young adults who cannot otherwise experience these cultural activities.

The production is February 27, 2 and 7 p.m., at Kingsborough Community College Performing Arts Center, 2001 Oriental Boulevard in Manhattan Beach. For information, call 718-891-6199. Tickets are $20; seniors (65+) and children (12 & under), $17.
