Museum goes from turntables to Tutankanum

During May, the Brooklyn Museum will offer an exciting lineup of public programs for adults including concerts by St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble and the Brooklyn Philharmonic, a music performance by Folklore Urbano, a site-specific performance by The True Body Project, and a lecture by Kathryn Bard about recent archaeological excavations in Egypt.

Performing Arts and Films
• Music Off the Walls: The Brooklyn Philharmonic presents Things That Make You Go Vroom!, May 17, 2-4 p.m. Brooklyn Philharmonic Composer-in-Residence Randall Woolf and pianist Kathy Supové team up with the Brooklyn Philharmonic for this program in which Woolf and BP’s Composer Mentorship Fellows pair music with video, turntables, and state-of-the-art electronics.

This concert is performed in conjunction with the Brooklyn Museum’s opening of its new Contemporary Art galleries and the long-term installation 21: Selections of Contemporary Art from the Brooklyn Museum. • Film & Discussion: Very Young Girls, May 23, 2-4 p.m. Very Young Girls (David Schisgall and Nina Alvarez, 2008, 83 min., NR) documents the lives of girls working with Rachel Lloyd’s Girls Educational and Mentoring Services organization to overcome the trauma of sexual exploitation. A discussion with co-executive producer Rachel Lloyd follows the screening.

Talks & Tours
• Lecture: “Egyptian Archaeology,” May 16, 2-4 p.m. Kathryn Bard, professor of Archaeology at Boston University, gives a lecture entitled Harbor of the Pharaohs to the Land of Punt: Excavations at Mersa/Wadi about the recent excavations in Gawasis, Egypt. Presented in collaboration with the Archaeological Institute of America’s New York Chapter.

Gallery Tours
Museum Guides lead free tours Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at 1:30 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays at 2, 3, and 4 p.m. Guides lead a tour in Spanish on the first Sunday of each month at 2 p.m. Check the “What’s Happening This Week” guide at the Admissions Desk for times and specific topics.

Gallery Talks by Student Guides
Student Guides lead free, conversational gallery talks in the Museum’s permanent collection and special exhibitions on Saturdays at 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. through May. Check the What’s Happening This Week guide at the Admissions Desk for specific topics.

Guided Gallery Visits for College and University Students
