Fire in July heat things up with debut

Adventurous Brooklyn-based cello songstress Jody Redhage and her ensemble, Fire in July, have been igniting local audiences with their contemporary instrumental fare for years.

On September 20, they celebrate the release of their debut album, “Ancient Star,” with a party at MonkeyTown in Williamsburg.

Produced by musician Ben Wittman, the album features 14 of Redhage’s original art songs melding the detail and finesse of chamber music with the energy and drive of more popular genres and improvisation.

The live performance will feature Redhage on voice and cello, Ken Thomson on clarinet, Alan Ferber on trombones, Tom Beckham on vibraphone, and Fred Kennedy on percussion.

Albums will be on sale at the release party for a discounted price of $10. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10, with a $10 minimum at the club. Reservations are strongly recommended.

MonkeyTown is located at 58 N. 3rd Street, between Kent and Wythe avenues. For more information, call 718-384-1369.
