This week in 24/Seven
Each week we'll preview what you can expect in our 24/Seven print edition, out Thursday for you southern Brooklynites and Friday for the downtown neighborhoods.
Highlights include:
Comedy: The Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival returns to Brooklyn September 17-20 with shows at the Bell House in Gowanus and Union Hall in Park Slope, with the titular comedian and friends hamming it up.
Books: Meet author Amy Sohn on when she reads from her (controversial if you live in Park Slope) satire "Prospect Park West" September 15 at Book Court in Cobble Hill.
Fashion: The Brooklyn Fashion Festival, running from September 18-19 at the Knitting Factory in its new location in Williamsburg, combines the coolest new spring looks with performance art.
Music: Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound make noise at Williamsburg's Union Pool September 16, The Brooklyn Country Music Festival takes over Southpaw in Park Slope September 17-20, and Park Slope's Brooklyn Lyceum hosts Blind Ear on September 18, an improvisational instrumental group you have to see (and hear) to believe.
Columns: Michele checks out Cobble Hill's Rapisarda - affordable yet still chic - in Pumps & PLeats, The Kitchen Klutz has a magic tea party with creamy fig tea sandwiches, and The Reporter's Table is no chicken when it comes to experiment, and this week Helen cooks up European stir-fried chicken and vegetables.
Film: BAMcinématek welcomes Robert Redford back to Brooklyn for an extraordinary tribute to his career, including his work, entitled "Robert Redford: Artist & Activist," running September 8-16 with live appearances by Redford on September 12 and 13. And Rooftop Films comes to an end this summer September 12 as it presents its first ever Brooklyn non-fiction program of short films on September 12 on the roof of The Old American Can Factory in Gowanus.
