All the right moves in DUMBO
This month, DUMBO is the place for dance.
From September 25-27, the 9th annual DUMBO Dance Festival returns to Brooklyn, with over 80 companies and 400 performing artists filling the John Ryan Theater and Brooklyn Bridge Park with innovative contemporary dance from across the country.
Presented by DUMBO-based dance company WHITE WAVE, the free three-day festival features the fastest and most original dancemakers, with audiences being able to enjoy up to seven different companies with each hour of programming.
All performances are free, though donations are welcome.
Tickets for festival performances are available at the door only; no reservations are taken. All performances are held at WHITE WAVE’s John Ryan Theater (25 Jay Street), except for outdoor performances at Brooklyn Bridge Park (1 Main Street) on September 27 from 1-3 p.m.
An opening night gala will also be held September 24, with seven of the festival’s companies performing, including Becca Alaly + Dancers, johannes wieland, Lauri Stalling/gloATL(GA), Lucie Baker, Pascal Rekoert/Flexicurve, Robin Conrad(CA), and WHITE WAVE Young Soon Kim Dance Company. The gala will also feature a buffet, dance party, music by the Bosa Nova Beatniks, raffles for art and more.
Performances are at 7 p.m., with the buffet and dance party at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $100 and up, with proceeds going towards WHITE WAVE’s production costs and their future programming. To purchase tickets, call 212-868-4444 or go to www.whitewavedance.com. For more information, call 718-855-8822.
