Theater group rears its 'Ugly' head

This micro-season is anything but small.

Starting tonight, the Brooklyn Lyceum will be overtaken with theater, music and parties, courtesy of UglyRhino.

The nascent theater company launches this month at the Park Slope venue, kicking off with Harold Pinter’s “Celebration” (pictured) and Eugene Ionesco’s “Rhinoceros.”

“These plays are the heart of a larger artistic celebration, using live music, parties and visual art to enhance the theatrical experience,” said Nicole Rosner, the new artistic director of the Brooklyn Lyceum. “We wanted to put on theater in a different way, especially in Brooklyn, because we were sick of going to places where there wasn’t a vibe, that you got in, saw the show, and left.”

To that end, the two-week micro-season will feature productions of the two classic absurdist plays, as well as music performances from over a dozen bands, Friday night parties featuring the Happy House DJs, regulars at the Bell House, and Blondebomb and Friends, and free food from Oaxaca Taco, Mama Rosa and Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs. 

“We just reached out to the community,” said Rosner. “There’s a lot of cool things going on here.”
