Ozomatli's wall of sound
The biggest summer stage is the Prospect Park band shell — and Ozomatli will need every inch.
The Los Angeles-based band uses nearly 10 people to take its sound — a mash-up of hip-hop, salsa, dancehall, funk, Indian raga, cumbia and pretty much anything else you can think of — into the ultimate infectious smorgasbord of dance party-ready tunes that haven’t lost their energy since the band formed 15 years ago.
The band’s name even comes from the Nahuati word for the Aztec astrological symbol of the monkey, which is also a god of dance. These guys knew what they were doing from the start.
When the band plays Celebrate Brooklyn this Friday, skip the chairs and head to the grass for this one. You’ll need as much room to dance around as you can get.
