Simply phenomenal
Get ready to clap your hands together for the Phenomenal Handclap Band, a collective of underground New York City musicians making noise with their recent collaboration and self-titled debut.
Formed as a creative outlet by NYC club DJs Daniel Collás and Sean Marquand, the two recruited fellow musician and artist friends from the indie rock and underground soul scenes for the latest supergroup, which includes Patrick Wood, Nicholas Movshon, Luke O’Malley, Laura Marin, Bing Ji Ling, Pier Pappalardo and Joan Tick.
On the debut, the result of this inspired mix is a sound equal parts anthemic, dancefloor-oriented and orchestral, borrowing elements from progressive rock, disco, electro and psychedelia – genres Collás and Marquand were fully familiar with as DJs.
Known for its daytime party atmosphere, the Band’s danceable beats will be perfectly suited for the Yard’s Gowanus groove, as they produce a cavalcade of sound that has been described as more akin to a church revival than a concert.
Get saved when they play BKLYN Yard (388-400 Carroll St.) August 15. Also on the bill are Tanlines and DJs My Cousin Roy, Brennan Green, and Runaway. The event runs form 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $10.
