Pumps & Pleats: Fashion for savvy moms

Story and photos by Michèle De Meglio

Nowadays, pregnant ladies are ditching that outdated barefoot and pregnant shtick and opting to remain fashionable and cool.

Bump, a Park Slope boutique, is helping moms-to-be stay stylish while their bellies expand.

C’mon, why wear a frumpy house dress when you can channel Sarah Jessica Parker, who wore Manolos throughout her pregnancy, or Nicole Richie and her bohemian chic look.

As Bump professes, “Give up wine, coffee, sushi — not fashion.” Mmm hmm, that’s right.

In fact, ladies can drape their bun in the oven in the sweetest dresses.

How about a slinky turquoise number reminiscent of Diane Von Furstenberg’s famous wrap dresses? Or a darling retro dress with ruffles in a rose shade with hints of purple and cream? The latter is even named “Sweet Pea.” How cute!

Need a jacket? Check out Bump’s sleek puffer coat with fur trim and matching belt. There’s room for a protruding tummy, of course.

At Bump, you can continue to wear jeans! The shop has an impressive array of light and dark wash blue jeans that look like worn Levi’s, minus the stretchy elastic waist.

There’s even black skinny jeans. Tuck ’em in a pair of riding boots and strut down the street. Hot mama coming through!

Bump is located at 464 Bergen Street. For hours call 718-638-1960 or log onto www.bumpbrooklyn.com.

Michèle De Meglio is a native Brooklynite addicted to all things chic. Check out Pumps & Pleats each week for more adventures as she scours the borough for fab duds and accessories.
