Laugh on at the new Freddy's
By Meredith Deliso
This show is a real trip.
The stand-up hour “Ed Sullivan on Acid,” a regular in the back room of the old Freddy’s when it was in Prospect Heights, has followed the bar to its new Park Slope location.
And it’s better late than never.
“The neighborhood was just starved for something like this,” said Pat O’Shea (pictured), whose every-other-Monday show is back on March 21. “The crowds have been great.”
O’Shea started the whacked-out variety show (hence the name), but soon stuck to just comedy, bringing in a handful of up-and-coming comedians each time. When the original Freddy’s closed last year, he couldn’t bear the thought of finding it a new home, and held out until the bar reopened last month in the South Slope.
“I actually missed running the show,” said the Clinton Hill-based comedian, who’ll bring in the likes of Angry Bob (HBO’s “Bored to Death”) at the next show. “It can be a pain in the ass — people are always asking for spots, and sometimes I would rather do my act than host. I didn’t think I’d miss it, but I did.”
