Hot plates! Try these top Brooklyn spots

By Kristen V. Brown

Here’s one way to get the most bang for your restaurant buck.

Next Monday, Brooklyn gastronomes will have the opportunity to try edibles from 11 new eateries for just $15 at “Hot Plates Live” at the Bell House in Gowanus.

“We really wanted to highlight Brooklyn restaurants that we felt were new and notable,” said Alexis Loinaz of MetroMix, which hosts the seasonal event.

This time, the event will feature Brooklyn Paper favorites Cariño, Mile End (pictured) and 1or8, among others. Most eateries will be sampling one or two menu items, though Cariño will be dishing out four samples, including incredible guacamole with papalo, tamalitos and tacos de rajas con crema. The best part: samples are unlimited, meaning you can go back for seconds, thirds or even fourths if your stomach will let you.

The full list participants comprises Benchmark, Blue Bottle Coffee, Branded Saloon, Carino, Fornino, Mile End, Mode Bistro, Osteria Il Paiolo, Radish, St. Anslem and 1or8.

“Eating out is not a cheap interest to have” said Loinaz. “We wanted to highlight the places we think are really worth your time, and do it in a way that’s fun and affordable.”

OK, so there’s no free lunch, but there certainly is an affordable one.

Hot Plates Live at The Bell House [149 Seventh St. between Second and Third avenues in Gowanus, (718) 643-6510], Sept. 13, 6-9 pm. Tickets sold on TicketWeb.
