Pool parties plugged?

The popular Pool Parties may be in danger of shutting down.

According to +1, which does press for Jelly NYC, the promoter of the free summer concert series, the East River State Park may not be available to JELLY for the 2010 season, ultimately putting an end to the flourishing free summer series.

The park was the second location for the Pool Parties, which were originally held at McCarren Park Pool until that became unavailble this year due to renovations. This past summer saw packed shows from Grizzly Bear, Girl Talk, The Black Lips, Dirty Projectors, Deerhunter, Dan Deacon, No Age, Mission of Burma, Beach House, and Simian Mobile Disco.

According to the release, JELLY is urging music fans to contact Senator Charles Schumer (212486-4430, or via e-mail), who is leading the fight to save the JELLY Pool Parties, to show their support.

We'll be looking into this issue more, so check back here and look out for this week's issue of the Williamsburg Courier for an update.

UPDATE: After talking to Jelly and the Parks Department, the issue is still murky. The promoters are "keeping our fingers crossed," while the Parks says the concerts will be there this summer. One thing's for sure: the East River State Park location is not a permanent solution, and in the future, a new, third location will have to be found for the Pool Parties.
